It is important for Associate Members to for comfortable as they prepare to experience the initiation ceremony itself, while preserving the integrity and confidentiality of the Ritual. Provide a clear, appropriate preview of what they can expect so that they feel at ease, excited, and ready - without revealing or diminishing the experience.
This includes setting expectations such as:
The ceremony is private, structured, and conducted consistently for all members
The environment is intentionally serious and reflective, including elements such as a darkened room and guided participation
Participants may be asked to move through various physical positions (standing, walking, kneeling, laying down, etc.), and accommodations must be made for any physical limitations
There are elements within the ceremony that carry religious or spiritual symbolism; however, participation is inclusive, and members may choose alternatives that align with their personal beliefs
The time to address concerns about comfort, physical limitations, or personal beliefs, is in advance of the day initiation will be held.
Expectation of NO Hazing
It is important to reinforce Phi Kappa Tau's unwavering commitment to safety and dignity. Phi Kappa Tau has a zero-tolerance policy for hazing, and nothing within the initiation process—or any part of the member experience—will involve humiliation, coercion, or harm of any kind.
